Hey,

I'm Bestwill Johnny

I graduated from the University of Benin in 2015 and set off for the sweet entrepreneurial ride I had always looked forward to.

Meeting several frustrating bumps along the line like: not being able to get a capital of N20,000 for my mobile bookshop idea; sharing flyers under the sun and not getting any client for my home lesson service; starting a magazine publishing team and breaking up after a few months of just cheap talk and no substantial plan; I finally found my big break on social media.

Now I spend my time managing social media pages for brands, writing and speaking to inspire and give clarity to entrepreneurs, and watching Nickelodeon.

I have been doing this since the last quarter of 2016. I have managed over 40 brands on social media, and helped over 500 entrepreneurs find clarity.

What If Customers Don't Trust You?

February last year, I had to go to Enugu for some personal matters. I would lodge in a hotel and since I had never been to Enugu, I resorted to finding a hotel online.
I'm not sure Trivago existed then.
After some frustrating stretch of search, I found this hotel that seemed to fit my budget and yet had this beautiful look.
I called the number on the web page, and a baritone poured in from the other end. We spoke. I told him I was booking for the next night. He advised I paid that night. I asked for the hotel account number. He sent me a personal account number. His voice was so convincing that I almost sent it. I called him back on a second thought and asked him one simple question.
"Why should I trust you?"
His reply was, "Trust me. I'm the manager".
I dropped the call and stopped my online hotel search. I had had enough internet for the day.
Making money is hard enough. Parting with it is even harder. Trust level is low.
What are your strategies for helping your prospects trust you, especially if you run an online business?
Do you feel entitled to their trust?
Is your pride hurt when they do not trust you?
I know that entrepreneurs have lost more jobs from lack of trust than from other factors.
You'll do well to take brand trust seriously.
Its the heart of your hustle.
There are too many fraudsters and 'lie lie' marketers already.

IDEAS Are Just Like Fine Girls

Ideas act more coy than fine girls.
As close to me as I keep my diary, I still miss some ideas.
That morning, I got an idea that got me excited. I wanted to send a chat before I pen it down. Then I couldn't find it anymore. I was sad.
A beautiful idea pops in, and I procrastinate penning it down for one minute, and I can't find it anymore.
Dear friend, you know what I discovered?
Most of the answers we need are in our brain.
Do you know we get tens of ideas daily?
The people you call creative are just the ones who have learnt to trap those ideas. Nothing special.
You ignore and discard them.
They pen them down.
They respect them.
"how about starting a partnership"
"How about collaborating with Adesua"
"how about calling all the food vendors in town and telling them about your offer.. You could get sales"
"How about using yesterday's experience to write a novel".. Etc.
They come in different forms and shapes. May look incredible at first. We pen them down unedited, directly from the brain.
Ideas can leave as quickly as they come.
Like MTN data. Unstable as Glo network.
Your notepad is your savior.
Dear Entrepreneur, wave your diary let me see.

How to keep your audience on their seat

My excitement level for the match was on an almost unreasonable high.
I remember pressing through the crowd of people at the gate with my adrenaline almost bursting out from my fists and breaking a leg.

For the first time in my life, I would be watching the Super Eagles of Nigeria play live, not from a screen. And not that I had travelled to one of the 'happening' cities to watch it. The match had been brought to Asaba- The small freshly developed city I had grown. It was a dream come true.

Nigeria vs Uganda

Beads of sweat clustered my forehead. My elder brother's too. My steps were quick and powered by zeal. So much so that when his ticket slipped into the drainage behind the main bowl, I went down with it and picked it up, ruining my wrist watch in the process. Nothing would ruin this day!

The match was annoying. For the sole reason that we never had the opportunity to scream Goal! Goalless barren match.

We left the stadium with feelings of excitement and tiny drops of disappointment sprinkled.

Another match was slated for the night. A Nigerian league match up between two 'unknown' clubs.
But as we left the stadium, more than half of the entire spectators left with us. When I reminded my brother that there was another match, we laughed at the ridiculousity.

It was a breach of climax- putting a match with lesser appeal after a most anticipated Super Eagles match.
Even the players would not watch it?😂

There should always be something to look forward to. That's how to keep your audience on their seat. Its how humans have been programmed. A kind of wiring that even emotional blackmail cannot alter.

In your marketing campaign.
In your business.
In your product launch.
In your career.
In your new set of services.
In your new book.

Never have a better yesterday!

Democracy Day

Imagine someone walks up to you while you are sitting on a bench in a park waiting for a friend, and says, "Hi, I sell the best electronics you can find. Check out my shop at New Ibadan Avenue. You'll be glad you did". He walks off after saying this to your face.

:
:
Or while you are out, gossiping with bae, a lady walks in, interrupts and says, "Come to my shop" or "Buy my hair products. They are the best."
:
:
What baffles me is, we don't do this in real life because we know its crazy, but why do we do it on social media and cry when we don't get results?🙄
:
:
Happy democracy day anyway.
